Chapter 1921: High Millinar Alexander
Chapter 1921: High Millinar Alexander
Rex didn’t react when this massive man landed right before him.
He stayed cool, not rushing to meet the man’s eyes.
Even when the man was still mid-air, watching them from above, the System had already caught him and scanned his stats. Davina and Lilliana might be startled by the sudden drop, but he didn’t. His eyes remained still, staring ahead lazily.
After a deliberate pause, Rex slowly raised his gaze and met the massive man’s fierce hazel eyes.
Standing towering before him is a muscular man, who was quite taller than Rex, around the eight-foot range. A red skull mask covered his mouth and nose. Plated armor protected his shoulders, forearms, and legs, leaving his torso with a dark red special shirt for mobility.
A red chlamys was attached by a brooch shaped like a skull on his right shoulder.
And strapped behind is a thick saber with the hilt shaped like a curving fang.
For once, he quite liked the eyes of this massive man—reminded him of when he was still in the military.
Most of the people there have this gaze, hard and trained.
Unlike Awakened or beings that could grow stronger and gain more power, the soldiers in the military relied on their minds more than anything. They couldn’t grow meaningfully stronger, so naturally, they mainly trained their minds.
Able to execute orders even if that meant their deaths without thinking.
People back then called it the Soldier Soul, and this man seemed to also have that.
Have the ability to follow orders from the High Lord without hesitation.
"Did you lose your voice, chump?" He leaned down—like he wanted to devour Rex. "Did you not hear what I said?"
"I hear you," Rex picked his ear and smiled. "Just that, I really don’t like to look up. Let me fix that."
Under the man’s very eyes, Rex’s body started to grow bigger and taller.
He transformed into his werewolf form, deliberately slowing down the process, letting every bone crack and muscle swell with theatrical patience. And when the process finished, he stood eye-to-eye with the massive man, a mirror of primal power. "Much better," A grin spread wide, exposing the sharp canines inside. "You were saying?"
"Nice little trick you have there, chump."
"Refreshing to see, isn’t it? I assumed finding someone as big is rare for you, too."
"Hah! Big is nothing without the strength to back it up."
"I’m sure you’re in for a surprise if you keep looking down on me."
"Alright, that’s enough," Liebert intervened, separating them—before the situation ended up in a brawl. One that the massive man and Rex would prefer, from the looks of it. "You two have a mission. This is only going to drag things out and give time for the enemy."
He then gave the massive man a knowing look.
And almost instantly, the massive man straightened his back and saluted, fist on his right peck.
"This is High Millinar Alexander," Liebert introduced, patting the massive man, Alexander, on his round shoulder. "He will be in charge of the mission in the Grey Realm along with his squadron of one hundred soldiers. The three of you would be a part of his squadron as Auxiliaries to aid them in combat."
Rex’s eyes flickered as he read Alexander’s status window.
...
Status: Skeptical
Race: Warborn Dwarf Giant
Power: 2-Star Awakened Demigod — Inner Power of Titan (5)
Oustification: Unmatched Demigod Body
Permit: Primordial Authority
Titan Source: Lava Shock — SSS-grade (Attack: Major Law of Strength)
Divinity Points: 24,055
Strength: 50,200,000 (+20,000,000)
Agility: 24,775,000 (+5,000,000)
Endurance: 43,500,000 (+20,000,000)
Intelligence: 15,000,000 (+5,000,000)
...
Just as his appearance indicated, his strength stat is incredibly high.
Alexander was true to his appearance—without any deceit. His strength stat was the highest across his physical stats, followed by his endurance stat, which goes hand-to-hand. He is weak in speed and energy-based abilities, focused solely on a physical confrontation.
Not to mention, he also has the Major Law of Strength.
His strength would be way higher because of that.
And since he was the High Millinar but was only at the 1-Star Awakened Demigod in terms of Divinity, the one hundred soldiers under him should all be Demigods. Across Larta City, the average divinity of the people there is at three-star Demigod.
Since the Red Skull Elite Force is a combat-based group, they should average above that.
Quite a fierce lineup.
Lilliana and Davina would be below average among them, but their utilities from their bloodline, along with the skills they obtained from him, should put them equal to the average, and above average in terms of usefulness.
"I don’t understand," Alexander turned to Liebert. "Why do we need their help? If they were leagues above us, I could understand, since they could intervene if things went out of hand. But they are only equal to us at best. What gives?"
"Are you questioning your superiors?" Rex commented, raising a brow.
"High Lord Rashal’s order," Liebert quickly intervened. "I’m sure he has his own reasons."
"He’s only being understanding for you," Rex flicked his hand—smirking. "We were called to tag along because we can guarantee to get things done. High Lord Rashal doesn’t want to risk this important mission, so he sent us here."
"The Red Skull Elite Force has served the High Lord for a thousand years. Battle after battle, we bleed for him," Alexander said, his gaze boring into Rex with blazing determination and the blazing spirit of competition. "We rarely failed a mission. Very rare. I believe the High Lord has absolute faith in our ability to deliver. Much more than a nobody like you."
"Then why are we here?" Rex spread his arms wide, a mocking invitation. "If you truly believe the Red Skull Elite Force is trustworthy... That the High Lord should simply rely on you guys, then prove it in this mission. Handle this mission flawlessly."
His smile sharpened. "As for the three of us, for your sake, we won’t interfere unless necessary."
"Bring it on, chump," Alexander grinned. "I’ll treat you three as squadron decorations."
Rex nodded his head inside.
Good. He won’t let his guard down during the mission.
Vadyn had given him a warning that things might not be as smooth sailing as he thought it would be.
Something in the Grey Realm spooked her—and perhaps made the High Lord frown, which was the reason why he sent his direct army, and also Rex. He wanted to make sure that the situation in the Grey Realm was handled perfectly.
Not a chance for failure.
And to lower the chance of failure even more, the High Millinar should also be extremely alert.
From Rex’s observations, this is the best way to make Alexander do exactly that.
By instigating the competitiveness and pride inside him.
Even if this was a routine mission, with the taunt from Rex, he would most certainly be on guard.
Once that was settled, Liebert excused himself to return to Larta City.
Rex wasn’t going to forget about what Liebert tried to do, using him to suck up to the High Lord—but that’ll need to wait. His mind should be focused on this assignment, as his guts, trained to sense danger at an uncanny level, were warning him that this assignment is going to be a dangerous one.
Something is bound to go wrong.
I hope Vadyn will tell me about what she saw later. And I hope she can be a bridge between High Lord Rashal and me. Not that I would bank everything on her, though. I’ve learned my lesson, and that’s not going to happen again.
Just recently, he also had undergone something like this.
He had helped Morgana make a crowning achievement by tackling the Voidal Monarch problem.
And how did that end? He was bound for execution.
All because he believed. Put his faith in Morgana. That she’d honour her words.
Because of that incident, no matter how honourable a person was in his eyes, he won’t put his faith ever again. Like right now with Enforcer Vadyn, he wasn’t going to put his faith in her. He’s thankful if she really tried in the end, but until then, he’s going to find another way to guarantee what he wanted.
At this point, I probably need to steal the things I need.
"Line up." Alexander’s strong voice rang, snapping Rex out of his daze. "Since you three are going to be joining my squadron as auxiliaries, even by the order of the High Lord, I won’t welcome you easily. You’ll have to pass the test first—my test. Fail, and I’ll deliver a formal complaint to the High Lord."
"Sure," Rex shrugged; he doesn’t mind this. "Whatever you say."
Lilliana raised her hand, "Is it going to be a physical test?"
"Of course," Alexander flexed his massive bicep. "My squadron is known for its physicality."
"Can I not... do that?" She smiled sheepishly, looking down at her neat outfit, not wanting it to be wet from sweat. "I’m too pretty right now for this kind of thing. Besides, I’m pretty sure I’m older than you, so can I not participate?"
"Who do you think you are?!" Alexander stood before Lilliana and roared like a drill sergeant. "Nobody is exempt from this test! If you want to join, then you have to complete it!"
"Eugh..." Lilliana moaned in complaint.
"Just use your life energy, sister." Davina crossed her arms, a knowing smirk tugging at her lips. Even with the glare from Alexander, she kept going. "Let the energy do the heavy lifting instead of your body. That way, you won’t even break a sweat. I’ve done it plenty in battle. Sure, being praised for front-line glory is nice, but it’s dirty and rough out there."
"No using energy!" Alexander strode over to Davina and planted his massive hands on his hips. His giant frame loomed over her. "You rely on your body alone! If you use your energy, even a single spark, you’re disqualified on the spot. Sent back to Larta City. Do you understand, little princess?!"
"Little princess...?" A vein throbbed on Davina’s forehead, but she forced out a strained smile.
Holding back the desire to shout back.
She was never disrespected like this before.
Sharply, she turned to look at Rex, asking with her eyes whether he was going to let Alexander talk to her like this. In response, Rex only chuckled and turned away, finding the situation to be funny. Davina was stuck dealing with this giant alone.
Frankly, he was used to this kind of treatment and found it amusing to see these sisters struggle.
Both of them are accustomed to battle, yes, but this is a whole new world for them.
Bound in strictness, being talked down to, shouted at; as nobles, they never found themselves in this kind of situation. So, seeing their reactions was quite fun. This brings me back to the old days. It hasn’t been that long, but mentally, it’s really a long time ago.
"Of course," Davina said through a tight throat. "Whatever you say."
A satisfied smile bloomed on Alexander’s face as he took off his steel bracelets.
He knotted a small string to each bracelet and tossed them with casual precision.
One by one, they landed directly behind Rex, Davina, and Lilliana—and the moment they settled, they swelled. What had been delicate steel bracelets erupted into massive steel bracelets; their sheer weight cracked the soil beneath them with a deep, grinding groan.
Additionally, the string turned into a rough rope that made it easier to hold.
"See that sword in the distance," Alexander pointed to the horizon. "Drag those bracelets there to finish the first round. I’ll be waiting there."
Swoosh—!
Not even waiting for them to answer, Alexander blasted away.
Rex was the first one to move.
He bent down to grab the rope and then pulled; the bracelet moved only an inch.
"You’re kidding..." Lilliana sucked in a cold breath at the sight. "You’re playing around, right?"
"It’s... It’s quite heavy," Rex smiled sheepishly, also surprised by the weight.
