Chapter 225: Poetry Society
Chapter 225: Poetry Society
"The school food is really bad!" Sun Ying complained to Yuan Xiu.
"It was okay at first, but after a month I couldn't stand it anymore, so I came back to change my diet."
Yuan Xiu sat down next to her and handed her the bowl in her hand, which contained dried sweet potatoes that Aunt Zhao had made in her spare time. "Your school is in this city. Why didn't you come back during your holidays? You could have come back every week to change things up."
Sun Ying eagerly grabbed a stick, took two bites, and exclaimed, "They can't come back!"
She swallowed the dried sweet potato in her mouth and continued, "You have no idea how motivated the people in our class are! Getting up at six in the morning is considered late, and they study until eleven at night! The dormitory lights were originally turned off at ten, but those motivated students applied to the school to turn them off at eleven! They don't even spare the weekends, forming study groups to reserve seats in the library. I feel embarrassed to say no, because that would make me seem unmotivated."
"It was this week that I came back. I told my family to send someone to tell me to come home."
Yuan Xiu felt this deeply; almost everyone in her class felt the same way.
"How about you? How's school? Are you getting along with everyone?"
Yuan Xiu nodded: "They're all easy to get along with, but because I'm a day student, I haven't participated in the morning and evening self-study sessions they organize themselves."
"That's good then." Sun Ying suddenly let out a long sigh, "I don't want to go to morning and evening self-study sessions either! I thought things would be easier after I got in, but who knew the intensity of the studies would be comparable to the college entrance exam preparation! Xiu! Xiu-jie, please help me think of a way, save me!"
Yuan Xiu spread her hands, unable to help.
Both of them have been in school for a month, but Wang Ting hasn't left yet.
Knowing that Sun Ying had returned, Wang Ting also came to Yuan Xiu's house.
As soon as she entered the room, she saw Sun Ying's utterly dejected expression. "What's wrong?"
Are there fairies in the school?
Why does it look like a demon has drained its yang energy?
Sun Ying quickly told her about her "hardships," saying, "I envy you two. One of you doesn't start school until May, and the other doesn't have to live at school. I wish my school was close to home too, then I could commute."
"That's because you don't know the disadvantages of day students," Yuan Xiu said, explaining to them that the food and oil supply for day students couldn't be changed.
Sun Ying: "Then I'll stay at school."
Wang Ting laughed, "You're being too realistic."
"Of course, I'm not stupid."
After saying that, he realized it wasn't right, and said to Yuan Xiu with a grin, "Sister Xiu Xiu, I'll talk about you instead."
Yuan Xiu gave her a reproachful look. "If you really don't want to get up so early, you don't have to force yourself to get up with them. It's convenient to take a bus back from the city. You can come back every week when you have a holiday. If you don't come back when you have a holiday, your sister-in-law will nag about it every time I see her."
"I'll try my best. As for not getting up early, there's really nothing I can do. I can't sleep when everyone else is up. I guess I'll just go with the flow."
Wang Ting said, "It's only been a short time since school started, so everyone is very enthusiastic and will definitely be proactive. I think things will get better after a while."
"I hope so. By the way, Sister Xiuxiu, has your school started a poetry club yet?"
"The poetry club?" Yuan Xiu repeated, "Are you sure you want to invite me?"
Yuan Xiu never expected that she would hear those two words from Sun Ying on Sunday, and then be stopped by Ding Xuewen on Monday to talk about it.
"Yes," Ding Xuewen said energetically, "As our class's cultural and sports representative, I have a responsibility to enrich our class's cultural life. I discussed it with the cultural and sports representatives from other classes in our department, and we decided to start a poetry club!"
"Oh, by the way, you might not know this, but the purpose of our 'Poetry Society' isn't just for fun, but to find 'life's value' in words, and to explore freedom, dignity, and ideals through poetry!"
"We can write about hardship, youth, rural life, separation, confusion, and hope!"
"Yuan Xiu, join us! Let's explore the 'true meaning of life' together!"
She really didn't want to discuss this "true meaning of life".
Yuan Xiu shook her head: "...I'd better not participate. I can't write poetry."
As soon as she finished speaking, Ding Xuewen disapproved, saying, "Yuan Xiu, how can you say you don't know how if you haven't even tried? You can't just stay away from group activities forever, can you? That's disconnecting you from the rest of the class."
"Ding Xuewen, you're overthinking it. Aside from the morning and evening self-study sessions, which I can't attend, it seems like our class doesn't have any other group activities. As for the poetry club you mentioned, judging from what you just said, it's not an activity of our class, but rather something organized spontaneously by students in the department. Such activities should be voluntary, right? Besides, you know that I'm already behind in my studies because I don't attend morning and evening self-study sessions. If I join the poetry club, where will I find the energy to study?"
"You're a class representative, you can't expect me to let extracurricular activities interfere with my studies, can you?"
Ding Xuewen's eyes flickered. "That was because I didn't think it through. Okay, I'll go ask the other classmates."
Yuan Xiu entered the lecture hall. This class was a basic course in traditional Chinese medicine, a combined class of several classes from the 77 cohort of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Liu Yazhi arrived early and helped save a seat. As soon as she saw her come in, she stood up and waved.
Yuan Xiu smiled and was about to step forward when suddenly someone jumped out from the side and bumped into her, causing her to stumble!
"Excuse me, are you alright?" A clear male voice rang in my ears.
Yuan Xiu rubbed her arm, which was sore from the impact, and looked up at the person who had bumped into her. It wasn't someone from her class. "It's okay. Please don't run around in the classroom."
The male classmate stared at her for a couple of seconds, then smiled and said, "You're right, classmate. I'll remember that."
Yuan Xiu nodded, walked past him, and went a few rows forward to sit down next to Liu Yazhi.
"Yuan Xiu, are you alright?"
"It's nothing, I just got bumped." Yuan Xiu put down her textbook.
"It's good that you're alright. That guy was really something, this is a classroom, not a playground, why was he running around? By the way, I just saw Ding Xuewen talking to you outside, was he talking to you about the poetry club?"
"He invited you too?"
Liu Yazhi nodded: "He invited almost all the students in our class, but it doesn't seem to be going very well. Not many people want to join that poetry club. Everyone is too busy studying to have that kind of free time."
Yuan Xiu pursed her lips. Well, she was probably the last person in the class to be invited by Ding Xuewen. Was it because he couldn't invite anyone else that he came to her?
Are you going?
Yuan Xiu shook her head: "If you all don't have time, then I have even less time."
"That's true."
